Cloud Computing Project

The new project Investigation and elaboration of the integrated infrastructure of the unified environment “cloud computing” to support open science will allow to create a Cloud service oriented on variety types of jobs and suitable for the support of open science.

The project aims to investigate and develop a computing infrastructure that realizes three service models (software as a service – SasS, platform as a service – PasS, infrastructure as a service – IasS) that uses multiprocessor clusters of the State University of Moldova, RENAM Association and the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics as integrated distributed computing infrastructure.

The project will identify those features of Cloud technologies that can address high-performance computing issues and parallel calculations execution on USM, RENAM and IMI clusters. A study will be performed of the impact of virtualization of the resources of the mentioned clusters, adaptation of platforms and tools for data analytics and storage of huge volumes of data (like Jupyter Notebook, Elasticsearch, TrueNAS), execution of complex applications based on MPI, OpenMPI and mixed MPI + OpenMP. An automated hardware resources management system (RMS-Resource Management System) of the created Cloud infrastructure will be developed. In addition, ‘benchmark’ programs will be developed for evaluation of the created Cloud system effectiveness for execution of various parallel MPI, OpenMP, mixed MPI + OpenMP and GridMathematica applications.
